I built the coop in generally the location it would stay. We only moved it back a couple of feet to the wall once it was complete. It is very heavy and would take four people to move any real distance. Building it in the permanent spot seemed like the best option.

I designed the storage compartment under the nest box area so that it is accessible from the outside. I determined the size of the storage compartment based on the containers I needed to put in it and built the framework accordingly (photo 2). The rest of the framework followed from there and framed out the rest of the coop “box”.

The run (seen to the right of the coop in photos 1, 2 & 3) is also built from reclaimed 2× material, and a plywood back and flat roof was added.
